Governor Vetoes Measures on Development Of Two Illinois Coal Gasification Facilities

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn (D) has vetoed legislation that would have permitted the development of two electric power plants featuring coal gasification technology, contending that the proposals raised environmental questions and imposed unfavorable terms for Illinois ratepayers. Quinn March 14 vetoed Senate Bill 3388 and Senate Bill 1927, which were passed by the Illinois General Assembly during a lame-duck session late last year.
