摘要

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced Feb. 15 the Bureau of Land Management will take a "fresh look" at its commercial-scale oil shale rules to account for expected water demands in the arid Western states and to ensure they provide a fair return to taxpayers. Salazar stopped short of saying Interior was setting aside the Bush administration rules that BLM finalized in November 2008, but he noted that commercial oil shale technologies are still "years away" from being viable, giving the federal agencies time to "ensure our rules and plans reflect the latest information and will deliver a fair return to the American taxpayer."
