Gulf Coast Claims Facility Rolls Out Draft Of Claims Criteria, Compensation Method

The Gulf Coast Claims Facility released its draft criteria for claims and compensation Feb. 2 as it prepared to process hundreds of thousands of requests for payments to individuals and businesses for damages from the BP Pic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The claims facility team concluded that it would offer final payments equal to double the level of losses in 2010. A public comment period on the draft will remain open through Feb. 16. Individuals or businesses unwilling to accept the requirements for making claims or the methodology for compensation can always go to court instead, noted Kenneth R. Feinberg, administrator of the claims facility, in a teleconference.
