Voters Reject Ballot Proposal to Add Renewable Energy Standard to Constitution

A ballot proposal (Proposal 3) that would have required Michigan utilities to generate 25 percent of their power from renewable sources by 2025 was defeated Nov. 6 by a nearly 2-1 margin, according to the Michigan Secretary of State. With more than 90 percent of the votes counted, the measure was losing by 63 percent to 37 percent. Backers of the proposed constitutional amendment, which included environmental groups and some unions, said it would have created jobs and helped the environment.
