State Releases Energy Plan to Boost Renewables Use to 90 Percent by 2050

State officials in Vermont unveiled an energy plan to increase use of renewable energy ' to 90 percent by 2050. The comprehensive plan, released Dec. 15, calls for the state to continue the progress it has made in generating electricity from renewable sources, currently at almost 50 percent, while tackling two areas where it has made relatively little progress—transportation and heating. Across all fuel sectors, Vermont currently utilizes about 25 percent renewable energy.
