'Stringent But Flexible' Carbon Dioxide Rules For Power Plants Sought by State Officials

Energy and environment officials from 15 states have urged the Environmental Protection Agency to develop "a stringent but flexible framework" for cutting carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants. The EPA should set federal carbon dioxide limits that reflect "the full range of approaches" that states have used to reduce carbon pollution from the electricity system as a whole, rather than regulating carbon pollution at each individual power plant, they said in a Dec. 16 letter to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy.
