Forest Protection Advocates Hope Summit Can Jump-Start Action to Curb Cutting

Environmental groups and other forest protection advocates hope to jump-start action to curb global deforestation at the Warsaw climate summit that begins Nov. 11. One year after a summit in Doha, Qatar, failed to produce any significant agreements, forest advocates see an opening to make progress on expanding a United Nations program, known as Reducing Emissions from Deforestation in Developing Countries (REDD), launched in 2008 to offer incentives for developing nations to cut greenhouse gas emissions resulting from forest loss.
