NRC Urged to Complete Safety Reports Next in Review of Yucca Mountain License

To continue its licensing activities of Yucca Mountain, the five-member Nuclear Regulatory Commission should first devote existing Nuclear Waste Fund resources to complete the remaining safety evaluation report volumes, according to NRC staff.In addition, the commission should complete the environmental impact statement (EIS) associated with safety evaluation reports (SERs), the agency staff said in recommmendations to the commission.The Nuclear Waste Fund, intended for management of nuclear waste, is funded by utilities that pay 0.1 cent per kilowatt-hour of electricity, collected from consumers.
