State Sues Phillips 66, ConocoPhillips Over Alleged Gas Storage Tank Violations

California has filed a civil lawsuit against Phillips 66 and ConocoPhillips alleging the companies failed to properly monitor, inspect, and maintain more than 560 underground gasoline storage tanks in 34 counties (California v. Phillips 66, Cal. Super. Ct.,No. RG1361894, 1/2/13). In the lawsuit filed Jan. 2 in Alameda County Superior Court, state Attorney General Kamala Harris asked for a permanent injunction that would require the companies to comply with all sections of the California Health and Safety Code and prohibit them from engaging in any activity that violates the code. The lawsuit also asks for appropriate civil penalties.
