Land Use Planning, Rules Offer Opportunities For Addressing Justice, EPA Officials Say

Land use planning, policy and regulations offer "abundant" opportunities for improving environmental justice locally and nationwide, a senior Environmental Protection Agency official recently said. The EPA is moving on several fronts to take advantage of these opportunities, including working on guidance regarding incorporating environmental justice concerns into regulations, EPA officials said on a Nov. 12 webcast. States and communities have also worked to utilize these options through passing legislation and through envisioning and planning for the community that overburdened and disadvantaged populations want or need, EPA officials and an environmental justice professional said on the webcast, "Environmental Justice: A New Model for Planning in Underserved Communities."
