Cincinnati Sewage Treatment System To Cut Pollution With Green Infrastructure

A Cincinnati wastewater utility is striving to eliminate the amount of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) going into local streams and rivers by clearing brownfields for green infrastructure, a utility official said. The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati and Greater Cincinnati Water Works will use an approach that focuses on keeping stormwater out of combined sewers during heavy rains, MaryLynn Lodor, deputy director of MSDGC, said July 29. In addition to providing cleaner water, the approach will create jobs and revitalize local neighborhoods, Lodor said during a webinar on green infrastructure and brownfields held by the National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals (NAL-GEP).
