China's National Development and Reform Commission could expand the scope of the country's seven carbon trading pilot projects, and it hopes to speed the construction of a national emissions trading system based on experiences from those nascent projects, a top official from the body said. The sectors now covered in the emissions trading plans are primarily heavy industry and coal-fired power plants, but the NDRC expects to give further guidance this year on how the pilot projects can cover other sectors in the regional economies where they operate, Sun Cuihua, deputy director of the Climate Change Department at the NDRC, said at the Eco Forum Global in Gui-yang on July 11.
