EPA Told to Focus on Environmental Impacts In Guidelines for Using Private Ecolabels

The Environmental Protection Agency's draft guidelines for using private sector standards and ecolabels in federal purchasing should focus more on environmental performance, sustainability groups told the agency. The draft guidelines, released Nov. 20, 2013, are intended to help federal procurement officers determine which nonfederal standards and ecolabels to use to meet their sustainability goals (44 ER 3499, 11/22/13). The guidelines were open for public comment from Nov. 20, 2013, until April 25. During that time, the EPA received input from more than 75 individuals and organizations, including the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council.
