Advocates Challenge Dredge-and-Fill Permit For Santa Clara River Development Project

Environmental groups filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency challenging a Clean Water Act Section 404 permit for the planned development of Newhall Ranch along the Santa Clara River in north- ern Los Angeles County (Ctr. for Biological Diversity v. U.S. Army Corps of Eng'rs, CD. Cal., No. 14-01667, 3/6/14). In their March 6 complaint, the groups allege that the corps' approval of the project and related permits violated the Administrative Procedure Act, the Clean Water Act, the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act. The Center for Biological Diversity, the Wishtoyo Foundation, Ventura Coastkeeper, Friends of the Santa Clara River and the Santa Clarita Organization for Planning the Environment filed the lawsuit.
