Ohio Air National Guard Will Not Build Wind Turbine After Lawsuit Threatened

After conservation groups began mounting an Endangered Species Act lawsuit, the Ohio Air National Guard has decided not to build a wind turbine along the shores of Lake Erie that could endanger migrating birds. The American Bird Conservancy and the Black Swamp Bird Conservancy said Jan. 29 that the project has been halted, citing a letter to their attorney written by Col. Peter Sartori, installations and mission support director for Camp Perry near Port Clinton, Ohio. Sartori said the turbine project "will not go forward at this time" because of objections raised by the groups about its impact on one of the largest bird migration corridors in North America. Earlier in January, attorney William S. Eubanks Ⅱ sent the guard a "notice of intent to sue" letter on behalf of the groups (45 ER 112, 1/10/14).
