EPA Proposes Fourth Monitoring Rule For Cyanotoxins, Other Substances

Public drinking water utilities would be required to collect occurrence data on 30 unregulated contaminants, including cyanotoxins, that could be present in tap water, under an Environmental Protection Agency proposed rule. The revisions to the Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 4) identify analytical methods for water system monitoring for the contaminants and "reflect lessons learned" through previous monitoring, the EPA told Bloomberg BNA in an e-mail. The UCMR collects data to help the EPA determine if a contaminant found in drinking water should be regulated.
