Federal Task Force Not Tracking Activities To Address Invasive Species, GAO Says

The Government Accountability Office is faulting the 13-member federal agency task force for not setting up a system to track activities and measure progress on goals to minimize the impacts of aquatic invasive species. In a Nov. 30 report, "Aquatic Invasive Species: Additional Steps Could Help Measure Federal Progress in Achieving Strategic Goals," the GAO said the task force developed a 2013-2017 strategic plan for mitigating invasive species, but failed to set up an operational plan to track the progress made in prevention, early detection, research and other activities.
