摘要

The way Mark Tercek tells it, switching careers in 2008 from a "deal guy" at Goldman Sachs to chief executive officer at the Nature Conservancy changed everything: from his goals to his views on happiness and aging. "It changed my life profoundly," Tercek, 58, says. "Even my family has changed. They are all paying attention to TNC's work and my four children are kind of proud of me." Tercek spent more than two decades at Goldman, working in Japan, and then returning to the U.S. to help run the firm's real estate, corporate finance and consumer health-care departments. In 2005, he was ready to resign and build a post-Wall Street life, but then-CEO Hank Paulson suggested he stay-and lead up the bank's nascent environmental efforts.
