New York City to Offer Technical Assistance, Advice for Energy Efficiency, Water Retrofits

New York City will provide free technical assistance and advisory services for building owners to help them carry out energy efficiency and water conservation retrofits under the city's Green Buildings program, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced. In marking the official launch of the NYC Retrofit Accelerator project Sept. 28, de Blasio also said that the city's Carbon Challenge program has expanded to cover more than 700 large apartment buildings and nearly 40 major institutions. The Carbon Challenge participants have pledged to voluntarily reduce their building-based emissions by 30 percent or more within 10 years, the city said. A dozen of them have pledged to meet a 50 percent reduction goal, it said. The announcements came a week after de Blasio marked a doubling in the city's solar energy capacity since the end of 2013 (46 ER 2861, 9/25/15).
