摘要

President Barack Obama and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff committed to get 20 percent of each nation's electricity in 2030 from non-hydropower renewable sources in an effort to build momentum for an international agreement on climate change later this year in Paris. Brazil also committed to restore 12 million hectares of forests-an area approximately the size of Pennsylvania-and eliminate illegal deforestation by 2030, as the presidents released a joint statement June 30 vowing to pursue an "ambitious" climate accord. Senior White House advisers called the actions "new and significant."
