Town's Success on Environmental Justice Exemplifies Federal Government Engagement

Harold Mitchell Jr. became essentially bedridden in the 1990s, losing 34 pounds and throwing up blood. That is when he started looking at an abandoned local fertilizer plant in South Carolina to explain his health problems. More than 20 years later, on May 27, Mitchell's community presented to 15 federal agency officials how he connected his personal health problems to his environment and how that led to engaging more than 100 government agencies and outside organizations and companies to revitalize his community of Spartanburg, S.C.
