State Wind Farm Will Switch to Solar Following Dispute Over Navy Radar

Developers of a proposed land-based wind farm on Maryland's Eastern Shore that faced challenges from Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and U.S. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) have scrapped the five-year effort and will replace it with a solar energy project. Adam Cohen, vice president of Pioneer Green Energy LLC, told county commissioners in a March 20 letter that the company "will not be requesting a permit for construction of the Great Bay Wind project in Somerset County at the current time or in the foreseeable future." Instead, he said, Pioneer Green Solar, an affiliate of the Austin, Texas-based renewable energy development company, will present plans to the county for a solar project "in the coming weeks."
