摘要

Projects in 21 states and Puerto Rico received a total of $8 million in funding to reduce emissions from diesel engines under the fiscal year 2014 allocation for the Environmental Protection Agency's Diesel Emission Reduction Act program, the agency announced March 20. The grants were awarded for a variety of projects in- tended to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides and par-ticulate matter, including a project by the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District to replace older engines in 48 delivery trucks with new engines that emit less pollution. The DERA program received a total of $20 million in fiscal 2014. The rest of that funding was allocated for tribal programs, a contribution to a program that funds establishment of state clean diesel grant and loan programs and a special funding opportunity for diesel emissions reduction efforts at ports. The EPA estimates that every $1 in funding awarded through the DERA program results in up to $13 in health care savings.
