Water Infrastructure Groups Seek Increases In U.S. Spending on Locks, Channels, Ports

Water transportation companies, port authorities and their allies are lobbying Congress to boost spending on inland waterways and ports in fiscal year 2016, their hopes buoyed by recent legislative successes. Congress should appropriate the full amount available in the Inland Waterways Trust Fund, matched dollar-for-dollar by federal funds, to expand U.S. Army Corps of Engineers work on modernizing and maintaining inland locks, dams and navigation channels, Waterways Council President Michael Toohey said March 11.
