Gulf Power Co. to Construct Solar Facilities At Three Military Bases in Western Florida

A Florida utility company is seeking state approval to build solar farms on three military bases with a total capacity of 120 megawatts, which together would represent one of Florida's largest solar power projects in operation. Gulf Power Co., a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Southern Co., applied Jan. 22 to the Florida Public Service Commission for approval of three power purchase agreements between the company and the affiliated entities that will manage the solar farms. The company also is seeking approval to use the state's cost recovery process to pay for construction, according to the PSC filing (Florida Public Service Commission, Docket No. 150035).
