New Law Needed to Strengthen EPA Justice Efforts, Rep. Grijalva Says

The Environmental Protection Agency has fallen short in its environmental justice efforts, a prominent House Democrat told Bloomberg BNA on the heels of a scathing review of the program. While the agency made significant progress under President Barack Obama addressing issues such as climate change that are important to minorities and defending "bedrock environmental laws," the agency's response to issues like flooding in Louisiana hasn't been fast enough, Congressional Progressive Caucus Chairman Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) said Sept. 28. It also hasn't given equal attention to certain urban environmental justice issues, such as air pollution problems in East Los Angeles, he said.
