California Port Volunteers to Spend $46.4 Million to Reduce Pollution Impacts

Long Beach, Calif, port officials will spend $46.4 million over the next 12 to 15 years to reduce the facility's impacts on air, traffic, noise and water impacts. The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners approved a community grants program July 25 to help pay for air filtration systems, air conditioning, energy efficiency upgrades, renewable energy projects, electric transportation, new doors and windows, buffer parks and open space, health programs, bicycling and pedes- trian infrastructure, noise barriers and stormwater treatment and reuse projects.
