California Water Board Approves TMDL For Selenium in North San Francisco Bay

California water quality officials have approved a plan to control selenium in North San Francisco Bay waters at low enough levels to protect human health and fish and wildlife. At a March 15 meeting in Sacramento, the State Water Resources Control Board signed off on a selenium total maximum daily load adopted by regional regulators in November. The North San Francisco Bay, which includes portions of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, Suisun Bay, Carquinez Strait, San Pablo Bay and Central Bay, already attains targets in the approved plan. As a result, the TMDL is based on the current total annual selenium load of 5,300 kilograms.
