摘要

Getting a gold star for saving the world isn't the top motivation for asset managers who are looking to become more socially conscious. Instead, they're hoping to avoid long-term risk, according to a study by FTSE Russell. When a group of institutional investors was asked why they wanted to apply environmental, social and governance considerations to smart-beta investing, only half listed "societal good" as an incentive. Three-quarters were motivated by the desire to be protected from "long-term risk"—the chance, for instance, that one of their holdings would pay a penalty for bad behavior.
