An environmental group’s challenge to federal permits for a proposed interstate highway to Myrtle Beach failed, because federal officials reasonably relied on a decade-old environmentalimpact statement in assessing the project, under a federal court in South Carolina’s Thursday ruling.The South Carolina Coastal Conservation League alleges that the proposed Interstate 73 would cost up to $3.8 billion to construct and unnecessarily destroy hundreds of acres offreshwater wetlands. The group says there are cheaper and environmentally preferable alternatives to the roadway.
