Clean Water Infrastructure Bill Advances as Democrats Plot Path

Legislation that would invest $50 billion in wastewater infrastructure over the next five years was approved by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday,despite pushback from Republicans.The bill (H.R. 1915) would reauthorize $40 billion through fiscal 2026 for the critical Clean Water State Revolving Fund, which provides low-cost loan financing for communities for a range ofwater infrastructure projects. That record funding level is substantially more than the $14 billion included in the bipartisan legislation the panel advanced last year, and the level currentlysupported by many committee Republicans.The House bill’s figure is also larger than the $14.7 billion for the clean water fund in bipartisan water legislation (S. 914) the Senate passed 89-2 in April.
