Diesel trucks will start paying a fee as early as August to enter and exit the ports of Los Angeles andLong Beach, under a first-in-the-nation levy aimed at increasing use of zero-electric trucks.Harbor commissioners had voted to assess a fee, averaging $18 per container, last March to helpclean the air around the port communities. The fee was supposed to be in place by the end of 2020,but declining port traffic because of the coronavirus and other related concerns delayedimplementation.
