Big Companies Move to Adopt Smart Systems to Cut Energy Usage

New findings from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory are spurring large enterprises to invest in advanced systems that measure their buildings’ energy usage and make adjustments in real time. The 104 companies and institutions that took part in the study, funded by the Department of Energy, saw a median of $3 million in yearly energy savings and an average 9% savings in their energy consumption. Participants, which included Stanford University, MGM Resorts, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, used systems that took in large volumes of data from thermostats, heating and air conditioning units, lighting, and utility meters, then use the the data to pinpoint problems and find waste.
