Instead of certifying certain bonds or funds as ESG-compliant, CFA Society of the U.K. is looking to accredit those who manage them. CFA UK will introduce a Certificate in ESG Investing later this year, targeting professionals analyzing and buying assets that meet environmental, social and governance criteria, according to a statement May 14. The certificate will cost 470 pounds ($610), less than the 1,000 pounds-plus required for each of the three levels of the flagship CFA Program. The new certificate, which may eventually be offered overseas, comes as asset managers face increasing demand among end-investors for ESG-compliant options. A survey by BNP Paribas SA released in April showed that companies are looking to recruit candidates from non-financial backgrounds, like sustainability consultancies, to boost their ESG credentials. A younger demographic of investors are more aware of ESG factors, said Daniel Murray, deputy CIO and global head of research at EFG Asset Management. “You have to demonstrate your credentials and it’s much easier to do it if there is a qualification,’’ he said.
