Steve Butler leads you, step by step, through the new framework, which, he says, has simplified and standardised regulation mechanics.rnOn 6 April 2008 the Environmental Permitting (England & Wales) Regulations 2007 came into force in the UK.rnThese regulations apply to all operations and facilities regulated under either the pollution prevention and control (PPC) regime (part A1, A2 and part B permitted installations) or the waste management licensing (WML) regime.rnThe aim of the new framework is not to change who or what is regulated, but to simplify and standardise the mechanics of regulation through the development of a single permitting and compliance system, which can also target resources where they are needed the most - that is, adopts a risk-based approach.
