£3M incentive on offer to landlords

Social housing landlords are being invited to enter a £3M contest to install renewable heat technologies, such as solar thermal panels and ground source heat pumps, in the homes of their tenants. The initiative is part of the Department of Energy and Climate Change's (DECC) Renewable Heat Premium Payment Scheme (RHPP), which includes a general £12M pot for all homeowners. Registered providers of social housing, such as local councils and housing associations, will be able to bid for up to £175,000 to help pay for the installation of renewable heat technologies. Landlords only have until 15 September 2011 to get their applications complete and those that are successful must install the technologies before the end of March next year.
