Understanding the relationships between the environment and society has never been more important. The Handbook of Environment and Society is a useful and timely collection which provides a benchmark for nearly fifty years of research and scholarship in this field. The main strengths of the collection are the comprehensive attention to foundational work on environment, culture, and society, and representation of the main strands of environmental thought since the 1960s.
