Transit oriented development: making it happen

Transit Oriented Development: Making it Happen is a rich international compendium with twenty-six contributors telling scholarly stories of transit oriented development (TOD) implementation in five continents and seventeen metropolitan regions. During the past two decades TOD has achieved much success around the world by providing what the editors rightfully claim as its accessibility, its sustainability, and the quality of urban life benefits (page 3). Even though the editors proclaim their primary focus is not to explore them, in this volume they effectively provide an overview of the why and what of these TOD benefits. They do, however, admirably achieve their main goal of elucidating how "the actual strategies that are needed for establishing TOD as a pattern of urban development" (page 3) happen. These achievements make this book suited for university public policy courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, especially in urban planning, political science, geography, or real estate development.
