Richard Brail is to be warmly congratulated for delivering this edited collection of papers on planning support systems (PSS), conceived through a conference in September 2007 in Cambridge, Massachusetts that was sponsored by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. The book brings together many of the most illustrious contemporary contributors to a field that has evolved dramatically since the early days of land-use - transportation modeling in the late 1950s and the quantitative revolution in the social sciences in the 1960s.
