摘要

How to combine science with democracy is a recurring topic of interest in political science [another recent work is Fischer (2009)]. Mark B Brown contributes to the discussion a proposal for a "normative conception of democratic representation" based on political theory and science studies. He focuses on the relationships between those speaking (expert and politicians) and those spoken for (humans and nonhumans). Crossing established disciplinary boundaries, in this case political theory and science studies, Brown's book will meet with different responses from different audiences, and so it is relevant to mention that my speciality is in science studies, focusing on environmental knowledge, science, and expertise.
