INTERNAL MEMO DETAILS POSSIBLE EPA STAFF CONCERNS WITH OMB RISK GUIDE

EPA staff have identified key concerns they hope to address in upcoming agency comments on the White House's controversial draft bulletin on risk assessment practices for EPA and other federal agencies, according to a copy of the document obtained by Inside Washington Publishers, despite strong political support for the bulletin's proposals. Several of the items identified by the staff could spark heated debate with EPA science chief George Gray, who is working to implement many of the items that staff are questioning. Gray will also play a key role in crafting the agency's comments as chair of the Science Policy Council (SPC), which is responsible for developing the comments by the end of the month.
