EPA IRIS WEB SITE IMPROVEMENTS LAUDED FOR MAKING RISK DATA ACCESSIBLE

Industry and environmentalist experts who are keenly interested in EPA's Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) say that new changes to the program's Web site are significant improvements that will make it easier for users to access hazard data on hundreds of chemicals, even as they note that the agency could be doing much more to advance the IRIS program's usefulness. The changes mark the latest step in an ongoing, multi-year process of revamping the IRIS program and respond to two priority areas identified by EPA Office of Research & Development (ORD) chief George Gray when he joined EPA-specifically, "improving the agency's popular [IRIS]" and "communicating ORD science to more people who can use it," an agency official says.
