摘要

A new EPA study could enable researchers and regulators to better characterize public health risks due to the presence of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in treated drinking water, which could impact the types of byproducts EPA regulates when it conducts future congressionally mandated reviews of its existing DBP rules. The study released last month, Measurement Error Estimation and Correction Methods to Minimize Exposure Misclassification in Epidemiological Studies, aims to minimize errors in epidemiological studies that are due to a common inability to appropriately characterize individual water use habits. The new methods the study suggests could affect future EPA risk assessments of byproducts and the stringent of its so-called DBP Stage 2 Rule. The study's summary is available on InsideEPA.com. See page 2 for details.
