EPA, OECD LAUNCH EFFORT TO EVALUATE RISKS OF 14 KEY NANOMATERIALS

EPA and representatives from the European Union and other countries at a recent meeting kicked off an effort to develop environmental and human health risk evaluations for a list of 14 nanomaterials, a process that is expected to help validate nanomaterial testing methods and thereby advance government efforts to better regulate potential risks posed by the rapidly emerging technology. Manufactured Nanomaterials marked the culmination of a process to select a final list of nanomaterials which took more than a year to complete, and kicked off a two-year project to test the substances, all of which are among those most likely to be used in commerce. The final list was adopted at the group's meeting in Paris in mid-June.
