摘要

Industry and environmentalists have reached an agreement on recommendations for first-time Safe Drinking Water Act rules to govern a new class of underground injection controls (UIC) for wells that simultaneously produce oil and sequester carbon, which they say could be the most viable type of well to begin storing carbon. Stakeholders from industry and environmental groups met several times over the summer to work out the details of the new well class, which would be more stringent than the well class used for oil production, but less stringent than the rules EPA has proposed for carbon capture and sequestration (CCS).
