摘要

As the Obama administration ramps up efforts to promote improved weatherization and other building renovation efforts, environmentalists and healthy home groups are urging EPA to tighten and expand its lead dust and paint hazard standards.rnThe groups are arguing that the existing standards are insufficiently protective of human health, an argument that may be bolstered by a new study that argues the economic and health benefits of stricter lead hazard controls would easily outweigh the costs.rnA coalition including the Alliance for Healthy Homes, National Center for Healthy Housing and the Sierra Club filed an Aug. 10 petition asking EPA to use its authority under section 6 of the Toxic Substances Control Act to "lower the federal dust lead and paint lead levels from the current standards and expand the scope of those standards as required by statute." The petition is available on InsideEPA.com. See page 2 for details.
