摘要

Activists pushing for EPA to include cuts in the greenhouse gas (GHG) methane in pending emission rules for the oil and gas sector are touting the health benefits of methane reductions over their climate impacts, which one source says could help sidestep controversy that has mired other EPA climate regulations. EPA's approach to methane in the proposed rules, due for release in January, could be significant because environmentalists have petitioned the agency to cut methane from a slew of other industries. EPA is reviewing its new source performance standards (NSPS) and national emissions standards for hazardous air pollutants (NESHAP) for the oil and gas sector in part to resolve an activist lawsuit seeking to force the review.
