A key highway freight industry group is applauding provisions in the House transportation bill to establish uniform state permitting procedures for shipping hazardous materials (hazmat), including waste, but is urging the committee to relax other provisions - such as restrictions on shipping flammable liquids- that the group argues would be ineffective at improving safety.rnThe American Trucking Associations (ATA) says hazmat carriers have long struggled to conform with a "hodgepodge" of state permitting regulations that impose fees as well as inspection and audit requirements.
