摘要

EPA must ramp up its enforcement and outreach efforts with hospitals to keep drugs out of the nation's waters, according to testimony given at a House hearing on the issue.rnFred Massoomi, pharmacy operations coordinator at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, told the House Natural Resources Committee's insular affairs panel that there is "virtually no EPA enforcement" against hospitals to ensure they follow Resource, Conservation & Recovery Act (RCRA) requirements for disposal of pharmaceuticals, and that the law is not up to date to reflect new chemicals being added to waste streams and consequently entering the nation's waters.
