Trucking industry officials are divided over the options EPA and the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are proposing for their joint greenhouse gas (GHG) and fuel economy standard for medium- and heavy-duty (MD/HD) trucks, with some raising concerns about the options' complexities and seeking voluntary measures while other industry groups are backing comprehensive regulations.rnPublic interest groups and environmental and health agencies are generally advocating for quick implementation of the most comprehensive regulatory strategy under consideration, saying that NHTSA and EPA should factor in the health benefits of reducing traditional tailpipe pollutants as well as a comprehensive view of the costs of petroleum use.
